She appeared in her capacity as Chair of the UK Parliamentary Select Committee on International Development, delivering the keynote that opened the session’s panel discussions on gender‑inclusive climate resilience.
In her speech, Sarah Champion MP warned that global progress on sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) is stalling, with preventable maternal deaths, unsafe abortions and declining access to essential services compounded by cuts to international aid. She highlighted that climate change intensifies these vulnerabilities, disproportionately affecting women and girls through reduced access to healthcare, increased poverty and heightened gender‑based violence. Ms. Champion called for integrated, community‑led climate and SRHR interventions, stressing that locally driven approaches deliver more sustainable and resilient outcomes.
